I'm curious how much interest or how many would be going to the Regina Tournament?

I might head down the night before and go back on Sunday. I'll see you guys there! A 6:00 AM departure would not be a fun day for me;)

I wouldn't mind getting in a test game this week during the afternoon if anyone is up for it.

Here's my late-war list for the big event on Saturday. Lots of bodies and lots of firepower. Can handle a few big monsters but the toughest matchup might be a list with lots of armour. I don't really know what the meta is in Regina but I expect that with the larger points limit and late war people will bring out all the goofy Tigers and Panthers and whatnot. This list should eat those up. Wish me luck!

Soviet Strelkovy Batalon (Late)

Battalion HQ
Battalion HQ (30) w. Sapper Platoon (85) w. Pioneer Supply Wagon (20) 135
Combat Companies
Strelkovy Company w. 3 Rifle Platoons (350) w. 1 Platoon SMG (0) 350
Strelkovy Company w. 1 Rifle Platoon (130) w. 1 Platoon SMG (0) 130
Strelkovy Mortar Company (95) 95

Weapons Companies
Strelkovy Anti-Tank Rifle Company w. 3 Anti-Tank Rifle Platoons (125) 125
Strelkovy Scout Platoon w. 2 Scout Squads (165) 165
Strelkovy Anti-Tank Company w. 6 45mm obr 1942 (125) 125

Corps Support Companies
Assault Gun Company w. 4 SU-122 (170) 170
Tank Destruction Company w. 4 57mm ZIS-2 (155) w. PTRD Anti-Tank
Rifle Team (10) w. Trucks (5) 170
Tankovy Company w. 10 Mark II (335) upgrade to CS tanks (-50) 285

Total: 1750

It went really well. Chris from manatobia got first place, Tim from saskatoon got second place and squeaked into third. A fair number of games timed out, but I think that was mostly due to new v3 rules. I had a great time. Again a big thanks to lance and co. For putting this event together

It was pretty fun. I was angry with myself for playing so poorly. Rounds one and three I played relative newcomers and had easy wins. Round two I played Chris. We drew the "special table" that was entirely difficult terrain and had the reserve entry points on two sides almost completely blocked off. This was a poor choice for a tournament table. It is not really fun to make 10-20 difficult terrain rolls every movement phase. In addition, the loss of mobility gives the Germans a huge advantage (they can still stormtrooper move) while Allied stuff can barely move (if at all). I deployed like a retarded monkey and then continued to make mistakes once the game began. Chris played well, taking what I gave him. I made a horrible blunder with an assault on turn 4 (I was still in V2 mode) which sealed the win for him. There were a few nicely painted armies, including an especially beautiful British Armoured force played by...James I think? Everyone there was very friendly and Lance did a great and enthusiastic job! Thanks all and congratulations to Chris.

Sounds like it was a good time. Congrats for placing guys.

How was the table blocked for reserves?

We played the breakthrough scenario in round 2 which has 2 reserve deployment zones for the defender in opposite corners that extend 16" in from the edge, but only on the long edge. This table had a fixed cliff in one corner that extended the entire length of one zone. So you could enter onto the cliff but not move off of it. The other corner had a fixed mountain/cliff face within 2 inches of the entire zone which channelled movement in a single direction. You could get around it, but it would take an extra turn or two. The scenario had the "mobile reserves" special rule meaning I had to put one of my units of vehicles into reserve. Therefore with vehicles only able to move 8" AND having to make a bog check every move I had a unit that would take no part in the battle.

The table was built for 40K and I think Lance just thought it would be a cool idea to make it a special table without thinking about how it would impact the game. That being said, I lost the game mostly because of my poor deployment and play. The table just made the situation frustrating and impossible to "fix" my mistakes on the fly. You can't relocate your stuff when your mobility is so restricted. The game was basically over after the deployment phase. Personally I would never force players to play on a table like that, but I did a horrible job of adapting to the situation and anticipating the problems it would present. It is what it is, I lost fair and square.

Glad you guys made it and had a great time!
Appreciate the feedback and will see what I can do about the dreaded 'snow table' - seems it was a bit of a pain to deal with.
