I watched this. Really interesting I thought. It just goes to show you that some events can't be fully analyzed for decades after they've occurred. We likely know next-to-nothing about the Iraq War or 9/11. The generation after us might get a clearer sense of how and why these events happened the way they did.

Thats part of why I like World War II. The lines are clear and most of the information is publicly available.

But this Dieppe show was a good example that that WWII still holds many secrets. When you are working with historical propaganda provided by autocratic regimes whose only interest was keeping the population in servitude you get data of questionable value. The Germans did keep meticulous records, but tended to exagerrate enemy casualties and minimize their own losses, much like the Western Allies did. The Russians' data however, was mostly just complete fabrication with no basis in fact whatsoever. That's why historians working on the Eastern front have such a challenging task.

I find watching ww2 doc's when i paint really help with understanding the ww2.

Most americans are so biased that they should not be watched.

I have found that Battlefield documntary does a good job of breaking done battles, campaigns. Altoguht it takes 2 hours to expaind it. lol

The pbs, ww2 behind closed doors doc, is a good look at three western leaders and how stalin out maneuvered roosevelt and churchill. three part mini series

I could go on and on.

Haha

Maybe we should start a thread, which post doc and the link it to. I am up for that. That way, if a person is wanting to watch some doc and paint they have a nice source to use.

I definitely agree about the Battlefield series. Those were excellent programs.
