Germans! Empty Germans!

Thanks for inviting me in on some games today. It made a lot of what I read in the books make sense. Looks like I am going to start with Germans after playing a few games and listening to your advice today.

I've looked through the Grey Wolf book and identified a few Companies I think have a nice selection of different units to field.
1) Grenadierkompanie
2) Sturmkompanie
3) Panzergrenadierkompanie
4) SS-Panzergrenadierkampfgruppe
5) Feldherrnhalle Panzergrenadierkompanie

I am not sure which Company to use out of this list, or what combination of platoons would make a solid starting list to field. If anyone has time to provide advice, or even an example list from one of these companies would help me with a starting point. It would be great to be able to pick up/order the models needed this week!

For really common platoons that you will see used and available to most lists:

Panzergrenadier, Panther, 15cm Nebelwerfer, Stug III.

If your looking primarily at infantry companies 15cm Artillery, Pak40s and Pioneers should also be looked at.

Okay I don't know if these lists are any good, they are my first stabs. Please let me know how to tweak these to be more competitive if I am on the wrong track, or am missing something key. Also could you tell me which list you think is the best one of the bunch with your suggested changes?

Which company is this list built from?
Guessing... SS-Freiwilligen-Panzergrenadierkompanie. Using Nederland - Fearless/Veteran?

I was able to make the identical list using that Company. Man it feels like barely any models and only 4 tanks! After playing yesterday and seeing all the tanks both of you fielded, I am scared they are going to die really fast. I hope they are as tough as you say they are!

To make it 1780 on the nose (adding 15 points), I would have to make the following changes to the list (See BOLD below):

THE quote system sucks when you have to scroll down so i will copy and paste.

first list. dont go pknaker as you dont get def fire with them. panzerfaust are really strong and will bail a tank usually when tanks come in assault.
Armoured Flame-thrower Platoon - 1x Command Sd Kfz 251/16 (Flamm), 3x Sd Kfz 251/16 (Flamm) (210 pts)- these are overpriced and can die really easily. they can be used but they are situational.

Panther Platoon - 1x Command Panther A, 2x Panther A (560 pts)

Motorised Heavy Artillery Battery - 1x Command SMG, 1x Staff, 1x Observer Rifle, 1x Kubelwagen, 2x 15cm sFH18 (160 pts)-- usually you want one or the other. if you go panthers you dont need but can have the heavy arty.

also when making lists you should have even numbers. so 4, 6, 8 plattons. only time u want odd is for 9 and when you have 9 platoons the first platoon you lose doesnt count against you. even helps you have half on for reserves missions. if you have odd the odd man sits out.

2nd list looks good. not so good at the offensive with static gun platoons.

you are corrcted, that the list fv.

you cant replace mg/pf if you want the panthers.

Yesterday we were using med. this are heavy tanks that really hurt med tanks. the only problem is american tanks can now hurt panthers which they could never do from the front.
you have to upgrade the pak gun first and then you can upgrade it.

make sense?

1) What the heck is a Panzerknacker!!! Can't find that anywhere! I upgraded to it, because I had 5 points left to spend and I figured whatever it is is likely better than nothing.
2) In the games we played, I could see how a mechanized Infantry has some real advantages with few disadvantages over a static infantry list. Is this a correct assumption?
3) I will try and improve the first list I posted earlier from your feedback, and I will note the changes made. Is this better? Note there were quite a few changes.

That last list you posted definitely looks playable. You've got a full tool box. Good AT, recce, infantry and a template weapon. Grenadiers provide better infantry in some situations because their platoons are beefier. I think they can be 9-10 stands instead of the 7 stands common to panzergrenadiers. German flamethrowers as mentioned earlier are much less effective than Soviet ones. They are only RoF 2, and their flame vehicles are not allowed to assault. Soviet flame tanks can both flame and assault, making them a superior choice.

It basic increases your at in assaults but doesnt give denf fire.
Mech inf are more exp because of the cost to having armour trucks. these have gotten better in v3.

german regular gens still come as 7 in lw but are rifle/mg and therefore cheaper. In mid you can have 10 stands.

you shoul go 4 panzer 4 and 3 panthers.
panthers are tank killers and 4 panzer are all round tanks. you want 4 panzer for to sustain damage and to be better at assaults.

Yes please. I think I want to start with mech. Seems more mobile and flexible to me.

Dont buy the book. a new one is coming out june 6. i can lend you this book.
I really like this list for mech inf. any other book you can only have a base of 7 where as for lehr you can have a base of 10 inf which makes it tougher and has 4 at assets in base platoon

That does look pretty solid, and very very close to the mechanized one I posted last. It is funny, because the dice tin I bought was Panzer Lehr 130 Panderdivision. Has L's on the dice and all my markers. Almost like fate meant me to field this force. heh heh.

If I bought the models to field this, it would take very little to field the other one I posted as well. I will start to price out a force based on these last two lists. I think they look like the style I want to start playing with.

lehr is a great force. the den does have lehr inf blisters which would be great to have. if you want to paint them as lehr, the inf is a greener than standard german unifrom

I checked the list, and it doesn't allow you to choose Stugs. Is this really kosher? The statistics for them are identical. I would prefer to get stugs as well, because I can use them in other lists and there is a box set I could pick up. Or are you talking about taking the Stugs/BIV choice instead?

it would be fine to use stugs as jp4. they have the exact same stats and i used jp4 for stugs for the longest time as they look better Smile

Be aware that Plastic Soldier Company makes stugs, panzer IVs, panthers, halftracks and German infantry. Darren can order it in. The quality is good, and you would probably save yourself a couple of hundred dollars.

P.S. And good luck with that BF battlefoam bag. Those have been backordered for months Crying or Very sad

For transports most are available as 1 piece resin with a base or multi-piece like a tank. I like them without bases but for the amount of use they see you may want the resin.


GE412 Horch Kfz 15 field car $21.00 2 cars replace with GE413 Horch Kfz 15 field car $12.50

Also for Lehr you would want 2 platoons for that list. What some people do is just special order tank hunter teams(GSO112 Panzerschreck (late)) and use a regular platoon.

you dont need this. instead u should order six GSO112 Panzerschreck (late) to make six tank hunter teams since you have two full mg platoons with the halftrack inf box.
GE592 21cm NW42 rocket launcher $23.00 3 Rockets and crew dont need this. the 15 cm will work.
