Team America!

Post  ScottRadom on Fri Jun 29, 2012 9:31 pm

Hey, finally got my American Tank company back! Looking forward to getting some games in. Other then the "Devil's Charge" are there any 3rd ed American sourcebooks out there? I made the force so it could play mid or Late war, but I was wondering what the new hot stuff in 3rd ed. is. For either period. Just not sure what I should be getting table ready next. Currently I have an American Tank company with the following units painted up...

2 Shermans with a 105mm Sherman for the HQ

2 full 5 tank Sherman platoons

1 full 5 tank 76mm Sherman platoon

1 supporting Armored Infantry platoon

1 full 5 Stuart platoon.

Do I need Artillery? More infantry? Air support?

O boy, Scott, you are in for a treat!!!

The new blood, guts and glory books gives the americans some great tanks!!!

Go and get that now if you want to play a tank force.

I am in love with the new american tank force and I have bought some new tanks for it.

My new fav tank that looks good also as a model is the Easy Eight, front of 7, movement 14inchs and a at of 13! it has a bunch of speical rules such as if it moves under 6inch there is no plus one to hit from the stabilzer. also has protected ammo and some other things.

I dont have my book right in front of me, but the americans have the jumbo sherman that has a high front armour, i think 12 and a at 10. it has a speical rule where most hits has to go to them first.

ALso the standard sherman has gotten cheapr and the newer version have speicals such as 14 inch movement, protected ammo.

AS for stuff, i would take a look at the book.

I recommend amour dough boys, stuarts, 76mm 2 to each platoon, shermans, recons with m8 or jeeps, arty for smoke or the m2 mortars for smoke.

Hope this helps,

Shaun

Where was the army?

If you're gonna run armour the new aircraft rules are a bit different. Aircraft automatically range in on targets in the open. I'd recommend a bit of ack-ack. Ack-ack is cheap, cool-looking and pretty flexible. I find air support doesn't work great with a tank company because your mobility spreads you over the table quickly which chokes off places for aircraft to go. You might get one or two turns of attacks if you're lucky.
