That's a lot of artillery. I guess you could use them as ad-hoc assault guns if need be. A dozen breakthrough guns is no laughing matter. It does looks a little light on anti-tank. The thing about taking two full platoons of artillery is that if your opponent spreads out all of his stuff he's nullifying 2 of your platoons rather than one. That's kind of why I don't like taking artillery+air. However if the rest of your list can take advantage of the fact that you've forced him to spread out then you might be okay.

The list as written doesn't really explain its function well. There is also two options for the list. I will write them here to show how the army deploys. ON table is 4 platoons.

So how does it deploy if you're defending? Is that the idea? 4 large platoons on and 4 tiny platoons off?

No defending, you run 6 platoons. KG two stands from a scout platoon, giving you two platoons of two stands, so you hold them off plus 1 arty.

So what does all of the killing then when you're defending? Just the trained medium arty? I'm not seeing it. I'd like to see you use the list to get a better idea of how it works. It seems to me like an attacking list with lots of flamethrowers or breakthrough guns could cause problems.

I cannot say for sure Tim that the list will work well against all lists. Typically BTG will be in range 24" so the direct fire ability of the 6 Wespes and 4 Hummels which I have in my latest variant should be able to deal with them. Incredible bombardments and the direct fire will certainly deal with anything from light to heavy tanks (in theory). I honestly don't see an assault happening in the first 3-4 turns - due to the AT ability. I think the list will perform, will it be a winner or the strongest list out there - that I cannot say. This was designed to be a fun list to play and give some variation in my own game - using units I never use. This could backfire horribly.....end of the day this is a game, fun to play either way.

It's definitely interesting, and like you say makes use of units that don't see a lot of play. I worry about the survivability of your artillery if you try to use them in the direct fire role. And IIRC Hummels can't ambush within 16"? I agree noone will be assaulting those blobs of infantry early in the game. They will take time to wear down for sure. Like I said, I'd like to see it in action. Free for all, encounter and dust-up will be interesting for you also.

I have a US infantry list I might attempt as well. I did a few mech. Got a few tanks. Want to give the infantry a go.

You do. I was saying to attach two to a KG, keeping the other 3 as a platoon, and likewise with another scout giving a team to each combat platoon, then I would have a few small platoons.

Its not super clear.

Looking at just the scouts.

They are 5 stands (motorcycles) - recce
You can make them non-recce with the rules - replace with 5 stands of MG/PF

I will then take 2 stands (leaving 3) - and make a KG, I will then attach the other one (or two) stands - if I attach two I lose the command team.

Make sense now.

so it is...not sure I think I had two easy army pages open.

So the KG can take one, and combat attach the other. Same effect.

The way I read it is you will be able to kampgruppe 1 of them from the pltn in weapons and attach 1 from each of the pltns unless you want to lose the pltns all together.

I have tried to build a list with the scouts and found they cost to much for what they add.

If you arty stays hidden you should do alright, but if you can't hide them they won't last long. Also being mech it won't be that much fun attacking into infantry companies.

You should take a look at SS-Freiwilligen on page 38 of grey wolf. I think it would work better for the style of play you are going for.

I will have a look at your German list. My goal right now is to off load my German EW and German MW, and then start filling in units for German LW forces. I want to run a bunch of different things, just attempting to round out my game even more. Get used to using new units.
